Hey All, There are RPM's listed for this year and the MM looks a bit suspicious to me. I thought I had better ask you guys before I toss back in the coin bottle.
Just in case, I can put some arrows around the area I was looking at? Pretty sure you don't need it though. I was very hopeful on this one....they have some that look very close to this one oh well
Wear and tear. Imagine that in order to make the D on the coin , the die has to have a depressed area where the coin has a raised on and a raised area where the coin has a depressed area. So the die has a depression around a thin pedestal of material , the depression being the D part, and the thin pedestal being the 'hole' in the center of the 'D'. Even though the die pedestal is hard steel and the coin metal is soft bronze, the pedestal will after several 10,000 strikes start to lose its tempering and starts to wear. So it gets thinner and the depression gets wider, resulting in a deformed/worn 'hole' in the center and a wider raised 'D' around it. If the strikes gets really high number, the pedestal may break off entirely leaving a filled 'D' or chip off leaving areas that many think are a variety such as D/D RPM or even a D/S RPM, but it is just a deteriorated die.
