According to the Coin World article the interview occurred sometime in 1991 for a videotaped American Numismatic Association Numismatic Profile.
Yeah, it does. But if you look you will also see - 12. MDR-001 - Obverse is ODV-001 (Accented hair) 13. DDR-002 - Obverse is ODV-001 (Accented hair) – MDS 14. DDR-003 - Obverse is ODV-001 (Accented hair) – EDS 15. DDR-004 - Obverse is ODV-001 (Accented hair) – EMDS 16. DDR-005 - Obverse is ODV-001 (Accented hair) – MDS 17. DDR-006 - Obverse is ODV-001 (Accented hair) – EMDS 18. DDR-007 - Obverse is ODV-001 (Accented hair) – EMDS 19. DDR-008 - Obverse is ODV-001 (Accented hair) – EMDS 20. DDR-022 - Obverse is ODV-001 (Accented hair) – EMDS 21. DDR-023 - Obverse is ODV-001 (Accented hair) – EDS The 11 you posted and the 10 I posted - all 21 of those are Accented Hair dies, and all 21 are doubled dies. I didn't say there 21 DDO's, I said there were 21 Accented hair doubled dies. And there are.
Point taken although I stand behind my original statement which was referring to "Obverse" dies since that is what is pictured: "CONECA accounts for 40 of those dies of which 11 are the accented hair die in various stages of doubling." A DDR which happens to be coupled to an Accented Hair obverse die (which is unidentified and could be any of the above 11), while technically is an Accented Hair Kennedy "coin", does not address the uniqueness of the Accented Hair Obverse design dies. Obverse and Reverse dies had different die lives (2,400 vs 3,200). As such, the reverse dies could be coupled with different obverse dies during their life spans. A good example is DDR-008 which was coupled with ODV-001 and ODV-002 (non-accented hair). This means that there were two varieties of the DDR-008. 008a and 008b? The above scenario doesn't even address the possibilities when RDV-001 gets put into a business strike press. For the sake of "this" discussion, my statement is correct in that CONECA has only identified 11 unique accented hair dies.
Technically, the Accented Hair Kennedy does not have a "Little Brother" since what makes it an "Accented Hair" is the obverse design. Not the reverse design which was also used on 1964-D Business Strike Kennedy's. I suppose you could call those 1964-D's Accented Hair coins but then you'd be wrong. Die marriages come and die marriages end up in divorce court which is only expected since the reverse die had a longer life that the higher relief Obverse die.
Nope, 64D were not proofs Could be true for sure. Still I wonder how the story on AH's little brother will end up over time. I mean at some point a population report of some accuracy other then what I was guesstimating will be done. Still this was a neat thing to see and I too noticed the scruff marks by the I.
As a side note, I really dislike that fact that some attributers associate a specific reverse die with an obverse die variety. Especially since the dies themselves have different life cycles. For the Accented Hair Variety, which is already full of conjecture on the reasons behind its existence, attributers have always stated that you can attribute the Accented Hair Kennedy by using the reverse die characteristics such as the "broken rays" or the "sans serif Initials". While it is true that ODV-001 was "only" coupled with RDV-001, it is an error to state that RDV-001 can be used to attribute the Accented Hair Kennedy since RDV-001 is married to many other varieties within the Kennedy Series. Assigning a name to RDV-001 such as "the Accented Hair Kennedy Reverse" is simply meaningless and confusing.
