Any guess on a grade on this one and chance for full bell lines? Thanks. http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/6638/img2449yj4.jpg http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/8669/img2444ke3.jpg http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/5099/img2446sh0.jpg
Looks almost like an FBL, but could be wrong. I'm terrible when it comes to grading any halves. Phoenix
They look pretty full to me, but the top set looks like they kind of peter out to the left of the crack. Also, the coin overall looks a bit "rubby," especially the reverse. I'm not sure I'd call it MS. It could just be the photo technique.
Thanks. Photo taken thru plastic in an old album plus just placed it on the window sill so the lighting stinks.
The lines can be broken/weak/etc near the crack on the bell and near either end of the bell....I have an MS65FBL Half Dollar graded by NGC that has a bag mark on the bell line near one of the ends of the bell.... As you said---the photoso were taken through plastic and aren't the best---so I can't be sure but I would say that you coin will either be graded. AU58 MS63/4 You have about a 50%-50% chance that it might be graded FBL---I would say that if graded 63 it will have FBL and if 64 then it will not. It will really depend on what kind of day the grader is having Speedy
I personally would not submit it. Some people will not consider a coin FBL if there are 3 or more hits across the bells, regardless of size.
Thanks for the info. Let's hope the grader is in good mood. Sent it out today. Will post the results when I get them in about a month.
I really think for some dates, Franklins are a little hit-or-miss with regard to the FBL. Here are my horrible pictures of my toned 54S. You can kind of see the bell lines, but you'll just have to take my word for it that the lines are continuous and unbroken, and without any dinks on the bell lines. It is graded by NGC, and does not have the FBL designation: Now I also have an untoned PCGS graded 54S, no pics though, and the bell lines are basically identical to the NGC graded coin. It does, however, have the FBL designation. As you may know, PCGS looks only at the bottom set of lines, while NGC looks at both. This may influence your decision on where to submit. I don't know if this has anything to do with the difference in grading of my two coins, but it could be a factor. And from what people tell me, both services are a little tighter on the strike designations lately.
Beautiful rainbow toned coin. Thanks for posting he picture. Does look FBL. Sounds like it is hit and miss on the FBL Hopefully out of the 12 I sent in a few of them will do alright. Thanks again
