1952-S Franklin. Full Bell Lines? Worth grading? http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/2359/img2452mj0.jpg http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/5525/img2460zn6.jpg http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/1897/img2461kv1.jpg
Flyers, very nice coin. I think you should cut your losses and send it to me, I will pay for shipping and toss in a few bucks for your trouble. : ) Seriously, I like that coin. Some rubs on it that will keep it out of the major leagues I would think though.
Ha ha. Thanks Jim. Hard to get those early 1950 S Mint Franklin's with Full Bell Lines. I was sending a few others in so I think I will put that in too. Sending 11 Franklins total from the set I won recently.
If you want harder ones try getting Franklins from the 1960-1961-1962-1963 with FBL...any mint. Speedy
You got that right. Checked the NGC Census for FBL: 1951-S 67 total 1952-S 35 total 1953-S 3 total 1954-S 62 total 1960 192 total 1961 44 total 1962 35 total 1963 22 total So what do you think Speedy. Chance of FBL's on either the 52-S or 54-S?
Well those POP's are higher than I was thinking----but let me put it this way---you are way more likely to get FBL's from the earlier dates such as 1948 and 1949 than the later 60's.....now after 1949 the detail started to go down---I think it was 1955 the mint redid the master die---therefor IIRC the dates to look for are: 1950-1954 and then start again in about 1958 to the end of the set. I had all of this info saved here somewhere but I've lost it so I might be wrong on some of the dates I've quoted above. I haven't seen your coins yet as I'm on slow internet and it takes a year to load such large photos---but I'll try again tonight and see if they will load. Speedy
According to Rick Tomaska's book on Franklin halves, the master die was reworked for the 1960 coins. He stated that even though the master die was reworked, they did not do a good job on the bell lines, which is why the 1960+ coins are more sharply struck, but still hard to find full bell lines.
Speedy, I bought a 1960-d for 21 dollars. Got the grade back today from NGC, 65 FBL. Unfortunately, every other coin I sent in they did not grade they way I wanted them to.
