Posted these pics as I've never seen or held one before that is as vibrant as this. Hope you enjoy it too. Just a lovely coin.
It does look a little 'buffed' to me too but if you enjoy it Froggy, that's really all that counts. Nice addition to your collection........
Unfortunately, that coin is nowhere near gem in condition, but being as you seem to very much enjoy it, in this respect, it certainly is one.
It's been messed with. It's hard to say more because each image shows the coin to be a different color.
Double or triple cleaned, I mean cleaned harshly. Plus what is that mark between the 5 and the A of America?
I do think the OP did not use the word gem literally as in gem BU condition. Notice there are quotation marks at "gem." Those give the word a completely different meaning.
I can see it perfectly look at the very last picture of the obverse. The op's pictures just aren't that great
Liberty is visible but isn't complete...but the coin is XF details AT BEST. Definitely been harshly cleaned and probably polished.
I'm at VF cleaned, but that doesn't matter, the most important thing is that you enjoy it. I can always respect a coin that someone truly loves. Way-to-go mate!
If you can see LIBERTY perfectly, surely you're also able to see the lower ribbon and hair curl, right?
Frog, you're learning. Pay attention, we chums are steering you right. One day, you'll have learned enough, and you'll look back at this coin, and see it our way. Until then, have I ever lied to you? OK, then. Enjoy.
chemically enhanced I do believe, too worn to produce the colors I see. And yes, as others have said , it is how you see it, I have coins from a very long ago acquisition that are now in my fun collection.
Morning all , hey face value it's a great eye candy , I bought a mixed lot of coins Friday last week was delivered Saturday. I have had this coin 4 days along with lincoln 1974s two mouths. Pulled from same bag . "Cleaned" not me it had mold on it along with few others so I run water over it patted dry not rubbed .. My enjoyment is the rainbow colouring that caught my eye. But sincere thankyou 's all round, surely forums are open to opinions and I'm far from an expert, "rooky of almost 2 months " if something catches the eye it's natural to be inquisitive. Thanks eddiespin your last entry is what I aim to achieve . So my mistake in useing "gem" . Not as in grading but as in she's a real "gem" of a coin. Interesting where you grade her though.:-[emoji4]was a good bag.
Sorry guys photos were taken on my leg from iPhone last night.will take clearer ones today. Thanks again all[emoji52]
Heheeee I knew what you meant being new to this....My Grandparents left me several coins and some very shiny bright ones that I would say were gorgeous far as coins go. I learned from the experts here that My Gramps liked to clean them up a lot (he passed in the early 70's) and one of the experts here said there were a lot of people back then cleaning them up not knowing that it could devalue them. I think it's a cool coin to have and now an even better talking piece to have in your collection FYI I think all the coins from my gramps are "Gems" ;-)
