What do you think of this coin? Not the greatest picture, but that's the best the seller can do right now? Is this a fair buy at $50? $100? $150? No price? Thanks for any thoughts. Rob
I zoomed it on it and I don't think I'm seeing what you are talking about. Are you talking about something just above the date at the very bottom of the bust? I also don't see anything corresponding on the reverse. Am I looking at the right spot? Here it is at about double size...didn't loose much clarity I don't think. Rob
Look from the A in GRATIA, move left to the chest. Could be a 'star like' mark. Or I need new glasses.
Hopefully someone else will soon provide a 3rd opinion. I have asked the seller for more details, but likely won't hear from them for a while.
I don't see any countermark. What you're seeing on the reverse as a "bubble" is just a reflection from the photography. I don't see any hugely obvious signs of it being a fake. Is that what you were asking? It looks cleaned to me, but that's not all that uncommon these types of coins. I'll wait for someone to chime in who is an expert in this arena. In the meantime, @Treashunt you might want to get started on those new glasses.
For a guy that just had his retina reattached thank God you can see the coin . Though I don't see anything either Frank .
I think I see what Frank is talking about. It looks like maybe a bit of a circular rub or abrasion on the coin's surface...hardly noticeable though. I think brg5658 is right about the "bubble". It's just a reflection. Hey Frank, keep saving money for new glasses but buy a coin with it... you don't need new specs. Good call, even if it's not a counterstamp. Bruce
I like the details, too. Few in "my pricerange" have such good detail (not how much detail remains in the clothes and hair). This one is offered for about $110. I did end up buying a less expensive one just to have and will likely pass on this one. Rob
I noticed this coin on ebay from a seller in Spain. May want to consider avoiding buying coins like this from there. In recent years there have been many fakes, as well as altered and problem coins offered at problem-free coin prices. To such an extent that many people I know will not even consider buying coins from Spain. The plus side is that these 8 reales coins are plentiful at fair prices from a variety of countries.
