Thanks! The 3CN came from Mark Feld originally, then LeeG, then me.

Would anyone be willing to donate images of a Type II silver 3c for Wikipedia purposes? Mint state grade or pretty close, and untoned preferably, plus a quality image would be good. If you are, I would send you an email asking if you are willing to release the images under a Creative Commons license and forward your reply to our permissions (OTRS) people. You can have credit or not as you please. Also a 1851-O, same deal. We have a poor article on the denomination, a very good one on the three-cent nickel, and I'd like to get writing on the three-cent silver article but won't without the images in place.

I write for Wikipedia also under Wehwalt, a list of my Featured Articles there can be found

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Wehwalt/Sandbox1 (the link is doing funny things so you may have to cut and paste)

I also wrote an article for The Numismatist last November for which I will receive a third-place Heath Literary Award next week, so I'm legit.

I *love* the nickel 3c pieces and have a small collection of proof cameos, 65 and up. Unfortunately they are at the bank or I'd take pictures. Next time I'm there I'll try and grab a few shots.

I'm hoping to someday complete that set along with my 20c pieces (though the 76CC will be tough).

Larry, sad to say, but that's a contemporary counterfeit. In fact, it's possibly an earlier die state of mine...

The easiest diagnostic is that the lines of the star don't meet. Other points: the font on the digits is off (especially the 8) and the lettering isn't even (S of States and the space between the C and A of America).

    I know.

I love that people share knowledge on these forums, but it irks me to no end when people make flat statements and don't share the 'why'. I get that sometimes it's a function of "I just know" because I've seen 1000 coins. But mostly, if you don't share the why, you aren't sharing as much knowledge as you could...
