Everytime they release something new that server grinds to a halt.... Damn page won't even load... Well, the main page will, but not when you try to load the catlalog page to go buy something... All you guys stop hittin it for a minute so I can get in...
I noticed the same thing about a 1/2 hour ago. You think the mint would have enough money to buy some nice servers that could handle the bandwidth needed to support an online store... Thanks Darryl
2 rolls of Denver already got 4 of the Philly from bank. Also got 3 of the 2006 unc sets and 2006 kennedy rolls. Rep said they (Halves) will not be out for another 20 days, I had to beg him to check that there were still some 2006. Was off the phone by 12:15 not bad There web site was jammed up phone works better
I finally got through waiting for all the various pages to load and ordered my sets, or at least subscribed to them. It took quite a while for me to complete the process but they'll probably lose the order anyway.
The fact that you can't get onto the site means that people are beating the mint's doors down to buy their stuff. There may be little incentive to change
im havein the same problem... its because alot of people are buying the pres dollars and its slowing things down
It sounds like far too many people are trying to place their orders online, thus causing the server to either play up or crash. It could also be that the Mint has a tiny server & an even tinier bandwidth. It sounds like the Mint will end up having to buy a pretty big server - one that could take up a whole room like the first computer did,& up the bandwidth. Aidan.
That isn't cheap--if you want them to keep the prices where they are I wouldn't suggest that to the mint. Being somewhat in that kind of business I know how they feel---lets say they get a T1 line worth of Bandwidth (and I'm sure they have alot more than that) it would cost them a few hundred for a good one...and more than likely I would say that they have a T3---I think a cheap T3 runs for around $600 but don't hold me to that---and I would say that the mint has more than 1 T3. The best way to have a site set up for hits such as this is to get "backup" bandwidth from OTHER companies---so lets say that you go to Co.1 for your service you also go to Co.2 and Co.3 and get the same service from all 3 companies---then if one of the hosting companies has a power outages or whatever the site doesn't go down and instead the site is re-directed to the other server....note that all 3 servers have the same info/detail on them. BUT being that this is a Gov. site I would say that they don't go through "hosting" companies and they just own their own---while they could still get 3+ T3 lines from differnt companies I would also guess that being the Gov. they don't do that either--but have a deal with 1 set company---so hence the slow down sometimes--while extra Bandwidth might be hlepful its not needed as they only have these problems for what...2-3 hours every few months? Note---I'm not that much up on Tech and I could be off on some or all of this---this is just what I've heard. Speedy
lol Speedy, for someone not "up on Tech", you have it down pretty well. I work for a software company, and we use a hosting company for just the reasons you mentioned. It can get _very_ expensive.
Thanks for letting me know I was right---I don't what to post something wrong if I can help it. Speedy
I hear ya, but I'm a hopeless "Coin Nerd" and get excited about new stuff!!! I just like to order it as soon as I can... Its that whole instant gratification thing.... Thanks for the stats, I was wondering how it was going....
The Mint just loves to manipulate ( will not go on sale until 12:00 pm) This builds up anticipation for all us coin nerds who keep any eye on the clock. If the Mint had said will go on sale Feb 15th with no time there would be less excitement Rick
I think yourr right... I started trying to get in when it was 11:00 am here... It was already neck deep in coin nerds.... :headbang:
