I have a 1999 Lincoln cent with all the letters on the front VERY clearly doubled. No doubling on the date or mint mark. Did a lot of these get out of the mint ? Any information about this coin would be helpful. Thank you in advance.
Leak: First: Welcome. Second, you have to post a photo of the coin, close up preferred. Normally this is strike doubling, DD's are not the norm (according the the mint and the single squeeze method of die production) but we all know that this has been disproved lately.
Hi, I checked the Coneca listings for Doubled Die Cents (LINCOLN CENT DOUBLED DIES 1980-2006), and 1999 is not listed. So, unless it has recently been verified, there doesn’t appear to be too many findings for that date. As Treashunt has mentioned, photos - or scans - would be the best way to go at this point. A.J.
1999 Lincoln Cent DDO Thanks for the information. I'll get a picture and post it. The doubling is as strong as the 1955 double date. I was very suprised when I found it. Thanks
Notice the flat shelf-like appearance of the doubling, It is obvious. GD has posted a great link to info about doubling in the information area.
