i found this quarter in circulation and noticed it looked like it was silver i looked at the edge and it showed all silver i have no ideal what this is but the details it is a 2000 state quarter i compared it to another state quater and the silvery looking one looks different any information of what this coin is would be greatly apperciated thanks!!
I can't tell from the pictures but you might have one of those platinum plated coins that get sold on HSN or on the pages of PARADE. If you can take a picture of your coin in MACRO mode it might help.
Then it's not silver, it's an ordinary quarter. Every now n then you will find a clad coin that does not show copper on the edge. This is nothing special, it just means the clad layer was pushed down over the copper covering it up.
It should have a macro setting. This mode allows the camera to get close (6-8 inches) to the subject. Try looking in your manual. Some cameras use a flower icon to indicate macro mode.
Hey cc51, Do you have a scale? If so what does the coin weigh? It should be 5.7 grams. If you do not have a scale, try a popsicle stick, or something similar, balanced over a pencil. Put the regular quarter on one side and the mystery quarter on the other and see if there is a difference. Weight should be the first test. Hope you found something here. Michael
Not gonna say it's impossible, but it's certainly unlikely. The US Mint has only struck 1 coin for a foriegn govt. since 1984 and that was a 1000 Kronur coin for Iceland in 2000. The silver plated coin is a possibility, but even weight won't answer that. Weight will tell you it is an oridinary quarter though. A silver quarter would be a good bit heavier - 6.25 gm vs 5.7
