Would this image be sufficient if I wanted to sell this coin on eBay (it's a scan, not a camera shot)? What changes would you make?
I've considered that but I didn't want to influence answers by mentioning it. I've got Photoshop Elements.
It's sufficient for eBay standards. But most buyers prefer a camera shot that captures luster and color better.
I feel like your image is better than that of 80% of eBay coin photos. That being said, it did benefit from Green18's contrast adjustment. You could include these scans, and also take a couple of photographs as well, if you felt so inclined. Then you would really be covering all the bases.
Wow, I never see scans of coins come out that nicely. Agree that your pics are better than about 85% of those up on eBay right as I'm typing this.
It was done a long time ago but based on what I normally did it was most likely done at 600dpi. Then while cropping the image I also reduced it to the size you see. I don't want to have to redo them (my Lincoln Wheaties) with my camera since cropping and resizing is work-intensive.
That's really good for a scan. If you can get them all to come out this nice, they should be fine for Ebay. You may be able to add a bit of contrast with your scanner settings. Are you able to get this type of results with Red and RB cents?
That question sent me scurrying back to my scans. Since I only use the scanner on raw coins I was quite sure I wouldn't have any Red coins to evaluate. But RB coins seem to come out well ... assuming they are really RB. Experience has taught me that what I interpret as RB is often an evenly toned BN with lots of Mint red peering through. I have 10-15 IHC's slabbed RB along with a bunch slabbed BN. What I'd need to do is dig them out and try to "teach" my mind's eye the difference between the two colors. I suspect the difference is subtle and variable from grader to grader.
