Just curious what to do in this situation. I want to buy some blank pages for a coin I want to do a custom set of, but the coin is sized 28.5 mm. Should I use 28 ported holes in the Dansco, or 29s? Thanks guys
Im gonna order one of each since I only need two and just return whatever one doesnt work to my needs and have the seller send out an extra of the one I do like. Its an ebay seller so it should be alright and he sells both sizes.
Very good guess, one of the only other major designs I REALLY like that isnt repetitive. Other favorite of the more modern era is the 5 pesos of 47 and 48
I just measured a few from the junk pile on my desk and they were all slightly over 28.6. Then again I don't know whether I'm testing the coins, or these cheap calipers...
And BTW I have a special affection for that coin too. They were still making them when I was a (very small) kid and my grandparents would bring them home from Mexico. Not knowing the history of the cap and rays design, I thought it was supposed to be an actual thunderstorm breaking out over the mountains behind the pyramid and the lake. Sooo much cooler than dead presidents.
I love the design as well. Too young to have ever been alive during circulation, but I deeply enjoy them. Yes a lot more exciting than dead presidents. I own very few of those these days and branching out into some other world coins with beautiful designs. I like the France 5 francs from 1960-1970 and then I will work on the 1958-2001 run of Italian 500 lira. That's my plan anyway. Gonna crack open some books tonight and take a look anyway.
I agree the 20 centavos are a nice looking coin. Too bad the US hasn't had a nice large bronze since 1857, as I just love large bronze pieces.
