Just curious to see who out there collects the AGE proof. I really like the AGE and want something "extra" to leave for the kids. Trying to decide if this is a path worth going down. What size? What drives you? (thoughts it will appreciate more verses a bullion coin? compulsive issues? doing it so long you can stop the series? etc) Any adive?
I usually buy the 1/10 and 1/4 oz proofs each year have been since 1999. I've also picked up a few of the ones I missed before then. I do so much like yourself to hopefully leave to my children some day. I did buy the 4 coin proof set in 2007,2008 and 2013 as those are my three kids birth years.
Do you find the 1/4 oz a large enough size to appreciate in proof form? It would seem that a lower denomination would help with its appreciation considering more people could afford. The 1/2 oz looks like it might be compromise between cost and a coin with some size.
Honestly I don't really care about the gain in value at this point as I have no intention of selling any of them and haven't even really attempted to find out if any have appreciated.
I get a couple of 1/10 oz proofs every year as part of my collecting, which is driven by asset diversification more than any other factor.
I think I started getting the 4 coin sets in 1998. I do it mainly as a collector, but always welcome the increased value. I have had several sets slabbed by NGC, just because I wanted to. I really like the NGC Retro Black Holders. <a href="http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/registry/coins/MySets_Listing.aspx?PeopleSetID=160288"><img src="http://boards.collectors-society.com/signatures/signature.php/NGC/set/160288/sig.jpg"></a> <a href="http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/registry/coins/MySets_Listing.aspx?PeopleSetID=135634"><img src="http://boards.collectors-society.com/signatures/signature.php/NGC/set/135634/sig.jpg"></a> <a href="http://coins.www.collectors-society.com/registry/coins/MySets_Listing.aspx?PeopleSetID=157646"><img src="http://boards.collectors-society.com/signatures/signature.php/NGC/set/157646/sig.jpg"></a>
