How come Stack's-Bowers has an apostrophe on just the Stack's name? Why not Stacks-Bower's?? And then what about Ponterio? How come they deleted his name from the company title? I suppose it sounded too much like a law firm with three names. I really miss Ponterio & Associates, somehow their catalogs always had the material I really drooled over. I also miss their 10% buyers premium. Okay, it did go up to 15% eventually...,, But what's the deal with auction houses all going to 17.5% now days? Add in shipping, insurance, and in some venues state sales tax, and it's as if you bid in dollars is actually executed in Pounds Sterling.

The partner's name is Bowers, not Bower - therefore, no apostrophe. Also, it costs a TON of money to change a corporate name. If the original corporation was set up as "Stack's" instead of "Stack," it will be "Stack's" forever.

Note: "Q. David Bowers" (or his corporation) is the other principal in the partnership.

I agree, auction houses will soon price themselves out of business, with a 17.5% buyers' premium. The whole idea of a buyers' premium is @$%&*# anyway. It's done ONLY to make it slightly less obvious that the auction house is charging over 30% in most cases. The auction houses also waste a lot of money sending catalogs to collectors who will never, ever bid.
