For me it's difficult to pick just one. I'm partial to large silver coins. I do find many of the cents & large cents attractive, I love the Merc. Dime and WLH design and am really starting to like Cap Bust Halves. To date, my favorite coin is the 1921 Peace Dollar in MS64 or better.

I like Morgans the best but there's more I like than I don't like so it's hard to choose. Plus I change my mind all the time.

  4. Barber Half. And even a little bit more specific, I really find the Micro O to be my dream coin. I try to keep track of them. Maybe someday I'll own one.

I agree with the Barber Half or Quarter being my favorite design specifically with an O mint mark, don't have a specific date however.

Good question. Usually coins slabbed in Fair are not the most common and secondly, 1881 is one of the lower mintage mint state grades including 1879 and 1880 for the Shield Nickel series.

I believe my favorite coin is a full Gem 1969-P quarter.

I've been looking for these since 1969 and have seen only about three that are full blown Gems with full strikes, good luster, and very little marking. They probably didn't make even 1000 of them and probably no more than 80 survive.

Survival would be far worse except many went into mint sets.

A lot of the toughest coins of the last two centuries worldwide have the 1969 date so it's of great interest as well.

I like this one quite a lot - 1892CC Eagle. Really sweet coin from near the end of the Carson City Mint era.

    Walkers are my favorite design.

That 21 Peace is a fine looking coin. I'm looking for a nice example for my type set. Given how clean the fields are on yours, from what I've seen offered lately, I'm a little surprised it is a 64. I've seen some 65's being offered lately that don't look that clean.

Thanks Mainer. That's what attracted me to the coin. It still has some nice luster too although the picture doesn't reflect that, no pun intended. I looked for a while before pulling the trigger on this one earlier this year.

What was important to me was finding one that had moderate to well defined hair, a clean cheek with no major distracting marks and clean fields. I think I accomplished this and then some.

Have you given any thought about sending it off to CAC?

Yes. I am compiling a grouping of coins to send to them later this year. I'm not a member, but I have a contact that can send them in for me.

Well for two reasons: It's a key year for the Shield Nickels and another given it is in a fair condition slab, so it's a double, rare date in a less seen lowball grade slab.
