I do believe it is post mint, but I am no expert on errors. others here can tell you more. welcome to CT.
Thank you. I was given this. At a circle k has change for my dollar. So i don't have anything invested in it. If it comes up being nothing. Again thanks for your input.
It almost looks like an S/S error, but I don't see anything like that listed in the Redbook. If they could screw something up during the war, they pretty much did though (it seems everyone who knew how to operate the machinery had gotten drafted & left newbies in charge). Does anyone know of such an error? I've seen it on contemporary US Philippines 10c & 20c, but not on mainland 5c.
Hit with what? You would need something pretty small and durable to do that on purpose. What would be the point
You really should make the effort and take the time to learn how coins are minted, Bill. Coins, while in circulation, get hit by each other as well as many other things. Very, very few dents and dings on coins are intentional. The problem with tour "S" is that it was hit while in circulation, most likely accidentally, and it would be impossible to tell how or why it was done. It did not come from the mint that way. Those are the facts, you have to learn to live with them.
