Yah, I really needed to scratch an itch, so I searched and searched and stumbled across this sweet lil' number ... Nnnnaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy!! ... and a bunch of grapes (my favourite => wine time!!) Thrace, Maroneia, AR tetrobol Circa 385-360 BC Diameter: 15 mm Weight: 2.63 grams Obverse: Forepart of horse right Reverse: Grape-bunch on vine within dotted square border Reference: GCV 1632 Other: VF, toned => oh, and please feel free to post any of your sweet coins with Horses, Grapes and/or "Sprues" on 'em!! Cheers, brothers (and sis)
Bravo Steve. A classic type and one I have had my eye on for a while though have been unable to bring myself to purchase as I am trying (and somehow failing) to save for a larger purchase. My criteria would be met in this coin with a well detailed horse in fine style. What's not to like?
Thanks Martin (I always like to hear your feedback, brother) Oh, and thanks for postin' those sweet horse coins, Mat!! (awesome) Here are a couple of my horse additions ...
Beautiful new addition, Steve, and great coins everyone. I don't collect by designs, but I did pick up this Valerian provincial just because pastoral themes are seemingly rare. Valerian I of Alexandreia Troas AE20; Alexandreia Troas Obv.: IMP LIC VARERIANVS AV; laureate, draped, cuirassed bust r. Rev.: COL AVG; grazing horse r. // TROA Reference: SNG von Aulock 7573 var (ending of both legends)
Thanks JA => yup, I've always loved that coin of yours (it definitely goes with my TROAS horse) ... it's on "my animal-coin list"
I like it Steve! Who doesn't enjoy partaking in a little of the fruit of the vine? Well, I know I do. As far as horses go, here is a fine rendering of a couple of proud Roman stallions on the reverse of this Roman Republic coin. "The Dioscuri Galloping in opposite directions."
Nice horse coins, Steve and everyone. I've yet to find a coin with luscious enough looking grapes but here are some of my favorite horse coins... Severus Alexander of Troas T. Quinctius Denarius (though this one is really about the rat) Domitian Denarius
nice new horse sprue stevex, the horse looks great. here's one of my favorite horse coins, a 2nd century bc seleukid of demetrios i....to bad it's a poor picture of the horse head. i here's a couple of carthaginian horses, given to me by a forum member.
Thanks for the coin-compliments, fellas .... oh, and great coin additions!! => please keep 'em comin'!!
