I need some help identifying this 1975 German coin, it was given to me as a gift. The lady that gave it to me told me that it was the currency that Hitler had made for himself but I'm not sure if it actually had anything to do with that, it might just be a replica.
A coin dated 1975 would certainly have no connection with Hitler, who died in 1945. This appears to be a regular German 5 Deutsche Mark piece that's been run through a corrugator or other destructive device, for unknown reasons.
The coin is real 5 German marks, no relation to Hitler. Pretty sure it has been mint cancelled (waffled). There is a potential of up to $10-15 for the right buyer.
hi austinm its a waffle coin and like taxidermist said its around 20 or so maybe more if you find the right buyer ,,nice coin,,i no the excitement when you find or think you have something special just keep your head up,and keep at it...cheers
It is a real demonetized coin. Not fake. This deformation was the way of remowal of a coin from the circulation.
Thank you for providing AustinM with your good answer. Perhaps Austin is not completely familiar with how the original coins of the Eurozone were phased-out of circulation & replaced with the current Euro coinage. AustinM might enjoy this Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro
