    LOT OF 45 US COINS ONE DOLLAR, TRADE 1795 1797 1798 1799 1871 1872 1873 1875

Opening at $4K, and it has a bidder. Considering placing a huge bid to spare anybody else the hassle of dealing with this -- on the other hand, maybe somebody is figuring that this auction plus Buyer Protection will let him fill out a few more pages in his Black Book at no cost to himself.

Good to see that abolishing the coin-direct-reporting system is working out so well for eBay.

The very bright surfaces on the 18th century Bust dollars alone scare me.

Yea buying valuable coins uncertified on the internet is a big NO NO. Also the seller is from outside the USA, double big NO NO.

EDIT: The exception to buying valuable coins uncertified over the internet is if you know the seller and have a good, long relationship in dealing with them.

Yes they are obvious fakes, except maybe that 1968 Mexico 25 pesos, but that's a very cheap coin anyway.
Don't always assume, however, that someone just got suckered into buying a bunch of fakes. I know of people that will put winning bids on things like this in order to PREVENT people from getting ripped off. They have no intention of paying for them, just buying some time to have the listing and seller account removed. I have a strong feeling this is exactly the case here. ;)

Gotta love the 1986 Statue of Liberty commems, dated 1906. Haha.

What is the deal with those, anyhow? There was a thread here a few weeks back where someone bought a batch of fakes that included one or two of the "1906" "commemoratives". It seems like an odd thing to mass-produce.

What does that imply? Everybody who's from outside the US is a gangsta?

More potential hurdles to getting a refund and virtually impossible to get the police involved in any meaningful way. Longer shipping times also make it easier to run a scam for a longer period of time before having to create a new account.
