OK, story on this is my local dealer got it in and knew I was trying to attain trades.
We have a pretty good relationship and I think he is good for the most part on catching fakes.
He thinks it may have been cleaned but the weight is very close to correct like 27.19 i think he said.
The dentils look right to me as well as the right die pairing.
So I'd like a few more opinions and if its worth taking a stab at getting it graded even if it may have details.
I live in the Midwest and don't getaloa lot of chances to get trades.
The coolest thing though was the old lady that brought it in said it was bought in the 50s or 60 from bowers and Medina and I am including pics of the holder it was in. So maybe it might actually be real.

Looks like it could be real, and most likely cleaned. The coin looks good from the pictures in terms of not being counterfeit. I can't honestly tell from those photos, but it looks like it may well be genuine. It would most likely NOT grade, as it has had a pretty significant cleaning and/ or polishing, IMHO.

Thanks morgandude. That's what my dealer was suggesting.
I am concerned about selling it down the road unslabbed... If it is ef40 cleaned I would think still think it would be easier to sell down the road if and when I would retire..lol

I agree. Given that it is a CC dollar, and less common than some of the more prolific dates, I'd get it slabbed for genuineness. It will probably not grade, but I can see it in an EF details slab very easily. :) That way, you will know for sure that it is authentic, and it is a nice coin, despite the cleaning. Just know that it has been significantly devalued (for resale purposes) by the cleaning, but if you intend to keep it--no issue there.

The Bowers Merena tag is from the late 80's or early 90's. The coin however looks genuine but cleaned.

Thanks jello...I don't have an NGC membership so I'll have to wait a few months to get a batch together for my dealer to ship off

That's correct. I bought several Trade Dollars from Bowers in that holder between 1990 and 1992. I'll guess it comes back EF details cleaned. Almost want to say AU. Nice coin.
