Hey All! Is this a Die Break or PMD? Also I have some other concerns, this has been in a hard plastic roll with others for 20 years and is still super shiny. It appears to me Gramps may have polished this one. What concerns me, is it did not tarnish like the others. I don't think anyone would fake a 1900 no mm with no special errors for that year or low mintage. Other than that this coin has a lot of detail. What do guys think?
If its raised, then it's probably a die crack. Looks to be cleaned. I inherited a bunch of coins from my grandpa and almost all were cleaned. That was the thing to do back then... It's a shame because there are some high grade coins that would now have a details grade but to cleaning/polishing.
Are the lines raised ? As they could be die breaks if raised above the fields or devices . I just can't make them out that clearly to tell
And then 2 within seconds of each other . I rermember in the 1st VAM book on Morgan and Peace dollars they gave the advice to clean your tarnished , ie toned coins with a Baking soda water paste , ouch !!!!! But that was normal back in the day .
Ty for the replies! Very surprised it is still so shiny! As to the crack it goes down inside but one side of the crack is higher than the other. I wonder if he tried to polish the crack or damage out? This coin had so much detail.
He left me a few of these, no key dates and the others have not been cleaned or polished like this one. So it is real the deal, but devalued due to a GD polishing
