So what are everyone’s feelings on the investment opportunity these coins might create?
I am betting the money, the big money, will be on the first 2 or 3 coins within the series.
I can see 500% profits within first 18 month on 1st 2 coins issued within this series.

Im sorry, I dont see that happening. With any series firsts, theres going to be millions of people hoarding these, just like the statehood quarters. 50 years from now these types of coins will be rarer in circulated grades because of it. Its a trend thats repeated itself since the beginnings of coin collecting.

Yeah but the state hood quarters are realizing 500% profits still today on the first 2 coins in the series.
They were realizing profits as high as 3000%, that’s right I said 3000% profits..
We bought the Delaware mint bags for 32.95 per bag and have sold them for 1,300.00 per bag.
these bags today, still sell for about 400.00 per bag - which is still about a 1200% profit.

The first bags issued "Delaware" were original priced at 32.95 they quickly went to 35.95 after that

while the 1976 coins may not have produced great profits, coinscams is right, there were great profits made on the first year's quarters. remember, ebay was around by that time. people were paying huge premiums for the coins in a mad scramble to buy and resell and/or hoard for future profits. even into the 2nd and 3rd years, people were not clued in to purchasing the bags of coins directly from the mint. that plus the demand was truly greater than the mint was selling for a long while, this lead to many people making money off of the bags of quarters.

I don't know how this will play out for the presidential dollars, as more people now know you can go directly to the mint. however there is are still a lot of people who only use ebay for their coin source.

Yes indeed, Ebay is where we realized such profits.
Not only with the state hood quarters but the peace and keelboat, Westward Journey Nickels also showed great profits..
the peace double roll box from the us mint, cost 8.95 and sold as high as 90.00 on ebay and today is selling around 50.00 bucks. 500% profits all day long!
History is about to repete itself for a thrid time, hopefully
I am betting my house on it. :secret:

I think they will do very well, these are type coins unlike the Sacagawea which is a series coin.

Unless someone can give me a good reason why they'd be a good investment, I don't think they will be at this point...

However, still plan to do atleast 2 sets of Proofs, 2 sets of uncircs and a set of Circs, just to see if I can get them all from circulation....

Why, if not for future profits, well, because I want too and I think they will be a cool coin to collect... I love to collect coins and sets for the sheer enjoyment of collecting, not just for profit.... No facts or graphs, just my [IMG]....

Also, I plan to do my part to try and get them to circulate and promote awarerness... I plan to get atleast one roll each payperiod from the bank and use them in transactions 5 Dollars and under....

I say collect the S Mints - I won't say that's your biggest chance at profit - But if you can get some sort of true silver version like the statehood quarters then it really could pay dividends. When I used to collect baseball cards, if you had a player in mind, you always wanted his BEST rookie card, even though there may have been 10 different brand names. Now, it's signatures and jerseys and all that good stuff. A similar principal can be found in coins. Those proof sets I bought in 1999, the quarters alone are going for $50 !!!! I never got silver ones - augh ... but the S mints are the ones that are nice in a case, have much lower mintings and well hey they are very shiney to look at! I'm buying S mints - but I'm not putting big money into it. Just enough to keep looking at them :)

I think as long as you get them for $1 each, it's a pretty low risk "investment."

Just watch the PCGS and NGC get into the action.

How much you want to bet that a PCGS MS68 2007 dollar sells for (at least) double over a NGC MS68 2007 dollar?

Then of course, you will find MS69 grades more than likely coming from the grading halls of NGC.

    Just a predication...just watch.

My advice would be save your money. When the 10th anniversary platinum sets are released, you should load up on those.

We might not even bother to start a collection of these. I'm pretty underwhelmed with the design, for one thing. For me that knocks out one of the tenets of investment appreciation for collectable items that have no intrinsic value- attractiveness.

Another tenet is scarcity-- don't have that either.

I suppose that the case could be made that there are enough people out there that could be made to believe that buying and holding would be an "investment"-- and therefore the people who cheerfully provide the coins for that "investment" may see a return on their investment. I think that the "advertising" for these coins will border on the unethical at times in order to project the perception that they will be somehow much rarer than they are. (I'm not implying that with respect to anyone on this thread; I'm thinking more about some of the well known marketers-- you can fill in the blanks.)

The state quarters may have netted some folks thousands of percent, but they had the distinct advantage of being circulated. The Presidential dollars, as were the Sac, SBA, Ike Dollars before them, are a non-starter in pocket change unless and until the dollar bill is retired or there is a mass epiphany among the vending machine manufacturers of the world.

I'm doing my part to get the word out-- based on another thread here, I ordered up a bunch of promotional material from the US Mint for Thalia Elizabeth's first grade class. I don't know whether that will spark any interest and perhaps result in some new Young Collectors, but I do know for sure it won't put a dent of the smallest size in the overall mintage figures I've heard tossed about.

In my opinion, the Mint had better take it easy on the commemoratives, lest the golden goose be killed off following the accelerating issuance of ever larger numbers of more outrageous and less relevant "numsimatic items." (Royal Canadian Mint, anyone?)

I plan on investing at least 10k on the first coin "US MINT ROLLS" then another10k on the dollar proof sets.
and yet another 10k on the second coin in the series and any other dollar sets, like maybe an uncirculated dollar set. Set aside another 10k for any silver issues that may come along.
All and all, I should end up with about 40k invested in these new dollars before the end of year 2007.
