Making it out of gold would kind of be an alteration then...

I suppose lol... still not interested though, and probably not going to happen anyway. To me such a thing just seems an artificial thing done to attract collectors. I consider my JFK half collection to be basically complete, with an example of all the "regular" issues from 1964 to the present (of course I have to keep adding the new ones lol but it's complete for now). I don't bother with the proofs, silver proofs, satin finish, etc. (Though some in my set are business strikes not intended for circulation, but they're still "normal" examples.)

When I have the money to get gold I'd just rather spend it on more interesting gold than this. I already have many examples of this coin design. The same design, but in gold, just does not excite me anywhere nearly as much as just about every other gold coin in existence.

This would all be a moot point if the gold coin doesn't happen anyway of course lol... and nothing indicates it will yet other than rumors and wishful thinking.

I thought the logic behind a gold 50th Anniversary Kennedy being possible was that the legislation that authorizes gold coins (or bullion) didn't require congressional approval?

Not that I'm aware. And even if so, doesn't change the fact there's been zero official announcement about such a thing.

What if, they mint them up (like they did for the Gold Sacagawea Dollars which were supposed to be a part of the program) and then Congress put a stake through the heart of the idea and they had to "melt" them all???

I smell another 1964-D Peace Dollar Fantasy in the works!

Well, except that I'm sure they'd at least "photograph" the coins. But then, maybe not??

They look a bit weakly struck. I think you got a bad batch. I'd send them back....;)

If I wouldn't buy a real one I'm certainly not going to buy a fantasy one lol...

I think what the "Old Guy" meant was that the US Mint was going to make the gold Kennedy half dollar but then melt them down before selling them to the public....... Like the US Mint did with the 64-D Peace Dollars.

    I'm guessing a mintage of:

    Half dollars Unc. 2-pc. Set = 750,000
    Half dollar 4-pc Set = 400,000
    $5 Gold PF/MS = 50,000

    BONUS GUESS....:D
Chicago ANA, Mint sells 1,000 gold coins and 2,000 4-pc. sets during the show.
Also, a new record for the longest line in "modern" Mint history.....1.35 miles.

I'm still on the fence on these, depends on mintage and limits. I imagine the Mint is getting pulled from both sides as how to distribute these. If they go the way of the Reverse Buffalo and the HoF coins they side with the BIG $$$ and the BIG $$$ wins....AGAIN.

IMO...if the Mint blows it on these the negative response will be like never before.

I'm quessing there will be no mintage limits on any of the three issues.
As a result they will all be overbought because people think these will be another HOF issue. It never fails that after a hot issue everyone wants to get in on the flip of what they think will be the next hot item.
By the end of the year the gold coin and silver set will be selling for issue price or less.

first half dollar size almost .75 oz gold coin.
first half dollar silver reverse proof
first half dollar silver burnished uncirculated

the half dollar silver proof and silver uncirculated. we have it on 1982 washington silver half dollar.

so i think the 4 coin set will be popular and good for investment. initial offer at $99.95 per set. this could be at least $150.00 and as high as $200.00 per set for raw set.

:watching:There is a possibility that there could be no issue limits on any of these coins because, precious metal or not, despite the fact that it is a coin design that is supposed to circulate, but no longer does, these halves may be made available for all who wants to buy. Regardless of the speculation, it is sure to be interesting.

So.. how does the ANA show work? It opens at 10, but ANA members get in 30 minutes early. Does that mean you can get in line at the US Mint table early too? Will the US mint start selling at 9:30 or 10?
