I spotted this coin on Apmex a few months ago, and have done as much research as I could. There are only 4 graded MS-70 Dcam, and a mintage of 50K. I love the look of the coin but there is no where I can find the book or market value. I have exhausted my avenues, and thinking of giving up. If there is anyone out there that can shed some some light on its approximate value, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks,

Dumb question, but I guess you've checked eBay completed auctions? Looks like some similar ones there...

There are no identicle coins. No disrespepct but since there are only 4 in the world, there are none there. If I am blind, would love to see the link.

Auction sold prices such as eBay or regular auction houses would be the best bet for value. There are only 4 currently graded as this coin, but that is 25% of the 16 that people/companies have submitted to PCGS. The other 49,984 have not been submitted, and they were designed as 'boutique art bullion coins" ( for beauty rather than circulating coinage) so the ratio of MS70DC would indicate a rough 12,500 that possibly could be this grade in total. I consider it 'marketing'. Be cautious!

Being as the total pop is four, how would you expect a value to be placed on it other than based upon what someone is willing to pay? If it has been sitting "a few months" on such a popular/well-known site, this would suggest it is not a hot item, at least at this price, but at this point in time the real question is how much would owning this specimen mean to you? If your interest is in owning this as a collectible to personally enjoy, the only one who can truly answer the question of worth is you. If you'll get $380 worth of enjoyment, buy it, but if not and possibly overpaying is that great of a concern, don't. While this could be said for most anything, in this situation in particular, beauty and worth is in the eye of the beholder.

Population reports can be misleading, that is why they are often featured in ads. That is why there is a big rush to have new coins like the baseball Hall of Fame coins graded and on the market.

Steve you might want to be aware of the fact that with coins like the one you want, TPGs often grade very high percentages of them as 70s. High means as much as 85-90% of them are graded as 70s.

You also might want to be aware that the values of coins graded as 70s has been steadily dropping for well over 10 years now. And the trend shows no signs of slowing down.

It is important for you to understand that, for infrequently traded coins, pricing is like flying by the seat of one's pants . . . it's all based on experience.

Established pricing comes from consensus, established by a meaningful sample size.

When you pursue coins, or any other collectible for which there are that few examples available, you'll never truly know if the price is right or not . . . even if the 4 coins all traded at exactly the same price.

If you are risk averse, and cannot convince yourself that the asking price is fair, I suggest you do as others suggested above, and buy a lower grade.

Not to be a Debbie Downer but when folks say things such as "There are only 4 in the World", I kinda wonder where they are coming from?

PCGS Population reports show that 16 of this coin have been graded with the DCAM Attribution: 1 in 68m 11 in 69 and 4 in 70.

PCGS Coinfacts says that there was a mintage of 50,000 pieces.

The fact that "only" 4 have been graded at PR70DCAM out of 16 coins submitted means nothing when considering a 50,000 coin mintage other than "only 16 were submitted for grading to PCGS"

With a ratio of 25% hitting the PR70DCAM Grade, I think it would be safe to assume that if 10,000 were submitted that 2,500 would achieve that lofty "award" which basically means, try to not consider this one as "1 of only 4 IN THE WORLD" since that is simply not true and could very well change upon another coin dealer submission.

As for price, I'd wager that $379 is a bit on the steep side unless, of course, you're into this PR70DCAM thing in which case price means very little.

So this topic made me go on ebay and look for garfield coin...and guess what?

THEY DO MAKE GARFIELD COIN....lol, they average about $25 a pop.

They do make it in silver. but for $379 is way over priced. I think a good price for MS-70 would be $90.00 - $120.00

50,000 is very high mintage, especially for an unpopular coin like this.
If you pay $300+, you should not expect to ever get your money back.

Population of 4 coins in PR70DCAM? Frankly, the population of people in the entire world who would even consider paying $380 for that coin is probably 1 or 2.
