Commodus. AE As. 175-176 AD, 6.6g, 24mm OBV: COMMODO CAES AVG FIL GERM SARM, Bare-headed, draped bust right. REV: PIETAS AVG, Sacrificial implements: knife, aspergillum, ewer, lituus and simpulum; SC in exergue. REF: RIC 1538; Cohen 404 (Struck under Marcus Aurelius); Sear 5561. In the dealer's own words about this coin. "A bit pitted, otherwise a decent example of what is quite a rare issue. This issue is the first one of Commodus, who had donned his toga virilis in the summer of 175 AD, upon turning 14. " I really liked this coin so I had to have it. A bit higher than my usual budget for a single coin though. The scan does not bring out the details of the coin much so I'm going to post the original dealers photo to show you. The background is quite ugly though.
Background notwithstanding, still an original issue!!!!! It may not be pretty, but what a catch. Congrats.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Not only that but he really did think he was Hercules. lol Oh, it's been rough with all the construction that is going on here, on the roof, most of the apartment building as well. They are building a church next door and they are also working on the road, installing new gas and water lines underneath. Since they have been starting almost everyday around 6AM, it's been really rough. lol Post those Commodus coins if you like. I don't mind seeing them! Excellent coins as always, Doug and Steve!!
