Very interested to see people here who own one give a review.

Interesting. I wonder how it compares to the spectrometers. At around $700 it seems a bit expensive however.

At first, it does seem high. However, compared to the price of a spectrometer, it's a fraction of a cost and the first "inexpensive" item that will quickly verify a coin that a dealer/collector could own. Hopefully, even a more simplistic and cheaper item will become available to the public but as for now, this is a huge step in that direction.

It may come down if enough are made, but it's outside my price range right now. It looks like a great tool for coin dealers.

Yeah, I'm interested. I've thought about trying to design something like this myself. I wonder how reliably it works on various compositions of, say, sterling?

    definer definitely....! LOL

The real question is how does it do what it does and is the mechanism of detection accurate?

Ah, I hadn't previously spotted the FAQ.

It's just measuring the resistivity of the metal. That alone won't tell you much, but if you know the object's dimensions, weight, and supposed composition, you can do a sort of "lookup" to see whether these electromagnetic properties match.

    But look at this section:

My opinion of this instrument is a good bit lower now.
