What type of error is this?

    New to collecting coins. What type of error is this? The thin area in the profile picture is the normal width of a penny so I wouldn't think it was smashed in some way. The rim around the front of the penny is very wide on the left and flat. The raised edges are much more pronounced than my crap iphone camera can capture.

    neat coin! can't tell ya what type of error that is (If it's an error) but can't wait to see what!

    That's called, "Spooning". Type that in search and you will find more information about it.

    It looks like it has been spooned to me, too. Note how the zinc is showing through.
