Hey All! Well better safe then sorry. I haven't seen ones like this, but I am sure some of you guys have. I am thinking PMD, but on the Obv on both sides of the clip I see some sort of striking line. Anyways thought I should ask. This is from my phone, sry if pics are not so GD. Yes, PMD.

Most likely PMD . But I'd wait for an error expert to confirm it .

A clip would have the same, but opposite, radius.
The first test is to put another cent next to yours.
Does it fit smoothly and tightly into the slot in the coin you've asked about?

Sry been busy, I placed another penny front and back and they fit smoothly with no space in between the coins, it also aligns right up, IMG_20140625_110010.jpg here is one picture. Oh thank you for the replies everyone.

No, not like that, edge to edge. Lay them both on a flat surface. Slide them together. Does another cent fit cleanly into the cent you think is clipped?

:cyclops: Um wow you are not messing with me are you? If so very funny, but if you are serious, I really have no clue as to how the GD one would slide into the other if flat side by side. Is there a way you can demonstrate it?

No, I am not kidding you, I'm trying to help you learn. If it were a clipped planchet, the curve of the clip would have the same, but opposite, arc of a cent not clipped.

That's right. It's like a jigsaw puzzle. Do they fit together? No. It's not a clipped planchet, it was damaged after leaving the mint. If they do fit, there is still more to look for to prove it's actually a clip.

You might also find a straight clip, which is a coin punched just off the edge of the strip. I am not sure how to authenticate them, though.

Ok I am pretty sure I understand what you mean about fitting in. Thank you for taking the time to do that. I must admit I was laughing at the time:)

    YW.
I probably could have been more clear, but I think you've gotten it now. Keep up the hunt, there might be rewards.

    It's damage.

However, the "puzzle trick" does not necessarily work every time, I believe it only works for curved clips. There are still jagged and straight clips that occur that cannot be determined through the "fit together" method.

You're right. I spoke to straight clips, but failed to mention the jagged clips.
