Here is one of my latest additions to the ancient collection. The information paper that came with it reads: Hieronymos, Syracuse. 214-215 BC, Diademed head of king left/Winged thunderbolt. aVF, SG 1224. nice patina and good surfaces. A nice Hellenistic portrait coin. Thoughts?
cool coin ... I like the green hue (nice eye-appeal) I have a coin from around the same time period ... maybe I'll show it a bit later? again, cool addition, my coin-friend (cheers)
Thanks stevex6! I'd like to see that coin of yours sometime Maybe I should have mentioned this in the first post, but it doesn't really have that green hue when you see it in hand. The lighting must have had something to do with it. It actually just looks black. I'll attach some pictures that better show how this coin looks in hand. Any idea of what it may be worth?
Hi dawg ... ummm well, I guess my example isn't really too close to your cool new addition, but it does have some similarities and/or feelings about it, yes? SICILY SYRACUSE HIERON II AE 21 C. 275-216 BC Diameter: 21 mm Weight: 9.02 grams Obverse: Diad head of Poseidon left Reverse: Trident flanked by dolphins
Ummm, I also have this baby that has certain similarities as well ... Sicily, Syracuse Æ Hemidrachm Timoleon and the Third Democracy 344-317 BC Timoleontic Symmachy coinage. 1st series, circa 344-339/8 BC Diameter: 24 mm Weight: 16.94 grams Obverse: Laureate head of Zeus Eleutherios right Reverse: Upright thunderbolt; to right, eagle standing right ... hmmm? ... sorry, but the year is incorrect ...
