1st off, this was my 1st Coin Show...

It was..... Well, Pretty cool... I didn't really know what to expect except the obvious Coins of course!!!

It was really neat, last minute deal for me as I forgot all about till this morning when I got an IM from a friend on another forum reminding me about it... So, I'm glad he did, but I didn't have much to cash to spend and I forgot my list of coins that I have and need.. :headbang: ...

Any Details on the show from what I saw....

It was at the Airport Hilton, parking was tight but decent.

Show Entry was only a buck!!! I really expected them to gouge me for 10 or so...

The Event Staff and Security were really nice and polite... There was plenty of security inside and out, but not overbearingly so...

I was really impressed with tehir concern for customer saftey as there was an old guy at one of the tables I was at, who had just bought God know how much in Gold Coins, looked like he bought 20+ old ones and after he paid, the dealer said, would you like me to page a guard to escort you out to your car or room??? Nice touch I thought...

The admission lady, told me to hld on to my show flyer/admission stub and it would validate parking, so I wouldn't have to pay... Another Plus...

Almost every table I went to, the dealers noticed me (not hard) said hello and asked if I there was any thing I was looking for or if I wanted to see something... Real Nice... I though...

I just kind of browsed around alot, table to table taking it all in as I didn't really have alot to (hardly anything) spend...

Talked for a bit two two old guys seeling nothing but Canadian Coins and Paper.... Real Nice guys... Cept they could not find or figure out a price on two Mint sets that had a real nice 2 Dollar Bill and 2 Dollar Coin... I wanted to know for my Daughter, she loves Canadian Coins!!!

Talked to another guy real nice that had a lot of Moderns, Proofs and Mint sets... I told him it was my 1st show... He said, well, don't rush in and by everything, calm down and take it in, see whats avalible for who and who has what...

Something pretty cool, I saw an older guy with his two kids, one looked say 15, the other looked maybe 9-10 at most, they were all three building a Type set, all three had their Danscos (7070, I think) and were trying to find coins to fill it... It was pretty neat to them them all three looking at some old type coins so intently and spending time together enjoying this great hobby... I only wish my dad would have gottem me into coins when I was that age...

    Tons of stuff to see...

Saw tons of beautiful Morgans and a few buckets of old busted up looking Morgans for 14.95 each, you pickem....

I thought Silver Bullion was a bit High, everyone wanted from 15-19 dollars for a Generic round, nothing Premium... At the local guy I can buy for a buck over spot all day, sometimes cheaper...

Stopped by a table with totes and totes of old Paper Money in sleaves or whatever its called filed in order of currency and type.... I stoped to check it out as my Wife is really into Paper (not just spending mine) and she had been telling me how bad she wanted one of those (My description) Big sized Silver Certificate Dollar Bills...

So I asked if I could look through the assortment and the guy said sure, handed me a box and said, let me know if you need more or have any questions and went on... Didin't stand over me like a hawk... I was kinda supprised... So, I found a Big One Dollar Silver Cert, in I guess decent condition... I eded up giving the guy 10.00s for it... (I thought it might be high, but I don't really know and the wifey would dig it)...

I waled around some more and ask a few other dealers what they would give for it and I was told from 25-40.00s, so I guess I didn't get took...

Later, as I was about to leave I went back by the guy that I had talked to with the Proofs and Mint sets, and and talked to him and a few other guys for several minutes... I asked how much he was wanting for a few of the mint sets, he said here and handed me a grey sheet and said, here take a peek at whatever you want, I''d like to get "bid" for them....

So like looked at the she for a few minutes will still conversing with him and the other guys,

    I ended up picking up
1- 1964 in Mint Envelope (Pand D sets) with COAs
1- 1968 in Mint Envelope (Pand D sets) with COAs
1- 1974 in Mint Envelope (Pand D sets) with COAs
1- 1978 in Mint Envelope (Pand D sets) with COAs
1- 1980 in Mint Envelope (Pand D sets) with COAs
1- 1981 in Mint Envelope (Pand D sets) with COAs
1- 1984 in Mint Envelope (Pand D sets) with COAs
1- 1985 in Mint Envelope (Pand D sets) with COAs
1- 1987 in Mint Envelope (Pand D sets) with COAs
1- 1996 in Mint Envelope (Pand D sets) with COAs

I took those for for 49.75 I think it was...

That was all the cash I had...

I really wanted to add a few new Morgans, but I did not have the cash or my list... :(

So, for my 1st show, it was pretty good... I had a great time and really enjoyed it...

I'll go back to another one... Hopefully, I'll have a few hundred I can spare next time... I know a few hundred aint much, but I'm on a tight budget...

You are still lucky. I had planned on attending the Show today also, but there had been some serious issues that needed dealt with here at home. I would have gone with tight funds like you, but that was partly because of the 2 1/2 hour drive to St Louis for me lol

I am glad you had a good experience, and maybe I can catch you at the summer show.

Sounds like you got a good deal on those MintSets....I use to buy a lot of mintsets and have some of the harder ones but lately they aren't ringing my bell--now a nice 1951 or 1952 PF66 Franklin rings it just fine!
Shows are always fun to go too!

I was mistaken when I thought the next St Louis show was this summer. Only by a few months though lol

The next show in St. Louis that I have seen is November 14-18, 2007. Assuming I havnt deployed by then (probably nto with my luck) my wife and I shoudl be there searching out some discount Morgans and Barbers.

Once I finish my Barber Half, Dime and Quarter sets, I'll start looking for better specimens. For now, I would just love to have a complete set with readable dates.

Glad you had fun smullen. The people at the STL shows are always cool. Sappernurse, the November show is a paper money show. The next show is sooner than that. Its coming up in may, and it should be bigger than this one was. So, make plans to go, Smullen save your money, and I'll see you guys there in May! I had to skip this one, because I had zero money to spare.

Hey guys! I was at the show this weekend too. I wish we would've all known. We could have hooked up. I thought the show was real nice on Saturday. They're a bit crammed for space in their current configuration. I even heard one of the people from the St. Louis Numismatic Association (who put the show on) saying to another member, "We have GOT to find another place to hold this next year." So keep your eyes peeled. I also went back on Sunday and it was flat out dead. Maybe 1/3 of the dealers or so showed up. Oh well.

Now, for some interesting things I saw at the show:

    1. I saw two dealers that specialized in Rainbow toned coins. All you guys that like those Rainbow toned Morgans, Peace dollars, Proof Indian cents, etc. would have been drooling all over yourselves. I have not been into those before, but WOW, there were some beauties! All certified by PCGS or NGC.

    2. I enjoyed looking at a High Relief Double Eagle that a dealer was offering.

    3. I saw one dealer had a couple of the 1857-S Double Eagles from the S.S. Central America shipwreck. Those were kind of neat to see.

    4. I saw a 1795 $10 Eagle casually laying in a case just mixed in with other coins with the price $52,500 on it. Wow! It's neat to see those high priced coins/rarities!

    5. I always find the amount of money (not mine, trust me) floating around coin shows fascinating. I was looking in a dealer's case, standing next to a guy who just did a deal with the dealer. The guy paid the dealer, casually threw the couple of high dollar coins down in a bank zipper bag, then put his rubber band around what I could clearly see was a stack of hundreds about an inch thick and tossed that down in the bag...WOW! I will never be in that category!

    6. And that brings me to my last observation...for all of you that like your coins displayed in slabs, you probably are like me and like the slabs to have relatively few scratches, scuffs, etc. on them. Let me tell you why they're all scratched up. I saw lots of people buying coins and just tossing them into bags with other slabs all banging around together. In the mix was all kinds of other stuff too, stapled 2x2s, money with paper clips, pens, and all kinds of other stuff to scratch the slabs up.

The Central States Show in May will be huge, much bigger than this one. I will try to make it up for that one too. I highly recommend attending it if you get the chance.

tcore, your right that the central states show will be huge. It isn't at the same place though. I have been to shows at 701 convention plaza before, and they were never cramped for space. So it should be a great time. Hope to see you all in May!
Also, I too have noticed dealers not showing up for the last day or packing up early. So its best to get there on the first or second day. I' have had to go to the last day before because sunday was the only day of the week I had off work, but if you get there when it opens up, its usually decent.
