There are 3 Whitman Coin Shows per year in Baltimore. Thursday through Sunday but most ordinary collectors like me go either Friday or Saturday. And since I'm retired I go on Friday; I figure I'll have a better chance of finding what I want that day. Those plus an occasional romp in eBay are pretty much my sources for coins. I look at Stack's, Heritage and Great Collections but they either don't have what I want OR have better coins than I'm looking for (that means out of my price range).
Depending on schedule, my stepson and I may go down Saturday. I wasn't planning on going at all, but if it's nice what the heck? It would be a good day. Though there probably won't be many dealers left.
From my experience, Saturday afternoon, they start getting sparse. I used to only go down Saturdays until I realized I was missing out on quite a few. Sunday is just absurd. Pretty much any dealer that must travel a few hour distance or more is gone.
From what I've read and heard about Coin Shows lately is that Saturday is becoming the new Sunday with dealers now bugging out on Saturday. Hopefully, this is not the case.
A group of us from my coin club are going down on Thursday. We usually go Fridays but I'm going away that day so can't make it. Always a lot of nice stuff to look at the Baltimore shows. I've put a small sticker on my name tag that says I'm a CT member. If you see me stop and say hello. Bruce
I've found that a small percentage (5-10%?) appear to get a table at the Whitman shows for apparently no reason other to be there. They may have display cases but generally with either nothing or just a pile of coins in them. Nothing apparently for sale. If anyone is at the table it looks like they are sorting through some large lot they just bought. And I see this on Friday.
