I always loved these old style Coin Boards from the 1930's. I think they were made to hang (perhaps even frame). This one below was called the "Lincoln Penny Collector". I thought I would try my hand at making a digital version and toss in a few of my favorite Lincoln Cents from my collection, from my friend Robec's collection, and a few other assorted gems from CoinFacts (shown at bottom). Just to show how this might look partially filled. Most of us cut our teeth at pushing coins into coin folders or albums, which is why I think this format appeals to me. A few downsides: 1.) this layout only allows one side to be displayed at a time; 2.) the image width is 1100 pixels which is good for web (forum) display, but with as many as 9 coins across, the coin face is limited to 100x100 pixels, which doesnt allow a lot of detail. Still I think it's cool looking.
Very Nice! Could you make each vertical panel a separate image, which would give you much greater detail? And run them across like a slide show?
I love those toners. It's been my mission to get RD or RDBN as much as possible for all my Lincolns, which looks like what you are trying to do. The ones in the teens are real cha chingers. Nice set.
You could do this with any series. It would be a nice way for a collector to view his collection at home or away while his coins are in the safe or safety deposit box at the bank. The coins inserted in the openings would be the actual ones he/she owns. Old school display of ones coins without having to crack them out of any grading service holders.
Very cool. I would love to have one. Just to add to some of the other ideas being posted - I found myself wanting to click on the individual coins to zoom in on them. Not sure how it would work but if you could click on individual coins to have them enlarge and sort of expand and pop out of the folder that would be neat. And then maybe a double-click feature to see the reverse image for that coin.
