i went through my change purse last night. i try to do it every week or so but this time it was longer because i never thought to do it. i FINALLY got a texas quarter!!!! i also got my 4th peace nickel - where are they????? - don't people use them???? i STILL haven't gotten a keelboat nickel in change.

i also got some really gorgeous pennies from various years dating back to the late 70s/early 80s. bright, shiny...looking like they'd JUST come from the mint. i always wonder where they DO come from. how can a 20yo penny that looks like it's NEVER been used be in circulation???? i remember finding a 1958 penny as shiny as a new one in change years ago. i kept it back but it's gotten darker over the years....always thought that was weird, too.

    Congrats on the Texas :)

As for the keelboat nickels.....I'm beginning to get the feeling that they are going to be the harder ones to find. I had no problem finding roles of the peace variety in local banks, but keep coming up empty on the keelboat variety. I can only guess that since they were not minted until later in the year, there will be less time to produce them and therefore less made in general. Maybe one of the resident experts here could comment on this theory, I may be way off.

One other note, last week the US Mint let out a press release that there will be 2 more new Jefferson designs release for 2005. One will be the first to alter the obverse since the Jefferson was released!

I remember when I first saw a picture of the Texas quarter. What a disappointment. There are so many things they could have done, but they chose nothing but an outline of the state and a star near...DALLAS.

Well, the Texas quarter is the only one I have gotten in change, and I got it in another state. I haven't gotten a MI, a FL or an Iowa.
Haven't gotten any 2004 nickels, either.
I have seen one of those new twenty dollar bills, though. They're pretty neat.

i love the new nickel designs. they'd be better if they had liberty on them, but this will do for now.

the tx quarter IS pretty boring, but i was so happy to get it...i mean...i get the mint and proof sets, but i still have this thing about seeing them in change. it's the same with the nickels.

does anyone think that there will be a smaller mintage of the keelboat nickel because it's coming out so late this year?

I actually like the texas quarter. Reminds me more of a traditional commemorative. I dont like overly busy details of most of the state designs. I think the state quarters look like carnival tokens. have you guys seen what they put on some of these? common!!

I'm happy to say that every bank in my town ( 20+ ) always gets rolls upon rolls of the new designs, Texas has been out for a long long time, and I still get rolls of them unc, Iowa came out here about a week ago, I was able to purchase a few of them, Keelboats came out I would say a month or less than that, and still getting rolls of them.... The bank that I have an account with, never takes the rolls of the new designs to stores, as well as never gives them when someone asks for a roll of quarters , they specially reserve them for people who actually ASK if they have the new designs in unc rolls.
