i was looking up some info on the presidential dollars and came acrossed the compisition of the coin and was i suprised

    88% copper
    6% zinc
    3.5% mag.
    2% nickle

what is the meaning behind the metals they are useing.... i mean of course there trying to make it as cheap as possiable for them selfs but why not the regular clad compistion like most coinage.... just sometin to think about

    Thanks, Bob

So what is the last .5 %? I get 99.5 from the table above.

Unfortunately, it also results in the same crummy color.

I must live in a tremendously remote part of the world. Have not seen a sac in years and years except in the proof sets i bought from the mint. something tells me the presidential will be the same way after george, just a guess

The reason the mint changed the color was due to the complaints when the SBA was minted and people complained that they were confusing the SBA and the quarter. As stated before, the particular metals chosen were to mimic the electrical signal of the SBA for vending machines.

The word I heard is the US MINT will make a silver version.
It is hush hush while they secure their tradmark rights and all that good stuff.
