This recently crossed my desk. I'm thinking it's the 27-j from comparing to other examples online. The reverse die was used on only 2 pieces and I have ruled the common one out. Thoughts?
Three hours and no replies, that by itself is kind of unusual. And I can't help ya either, colonials are not my bailiwick. Good luck with finding out
It's ok This was a toughie... I had to call my friend Tom Reynolds on this one. He confirmed my attribution and immediately took it on consignment. Apparently he thinks this is a $10k + coin.
I think that's why this guy is so much... It's worn but the surfaces are really nice and minus a few digs on the obverse it's problem free.
Nice looking example! I checked the Bowers colonial encyclopedia and I think your attribution is correct.* *I'm not an expert
Recently a geologic survey located this magical cave just under the coin shop... Apparently it was formed by years and years of PVC residue being removed from coins... It might explain a little of it...
Here you go Doug. Fascinating cave and excellent read. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave_of_the_Crystals
