Three Cent Nickel rim error?

    Cracked die or maybe a cud? I cant tell.

    Cud. Caused by a retained die break.

    Cud makes sense. It almost looks like it is ready to fall off the coin.

    FYI:

    The cud occurs when the part of the die falls away and there is no detail from the die struck.

    Retained cud . . . in this case, the portion of the die that broke off has shifted, but not fallen away, and still impresses the planchet, although not as deeply as the die does.
