I believe this may be a nickel, although I have no idea if this was done by a person and/or how they did it or if something happened during minting. My son (10yrs) and I love to look for error coins however, we are extreme novices and haven't obtained a high powered magnifying glass (only 10x's) nor do we have a scale yet. Alicia, not too many people have a weighing scale, but you can take coins to jewelers to have them weighed or if there is a college or high school around there are balances in the chem labs that can weigh very accurately. Welcome to CT
