Is this a nickel, if so can anyone tell me what was done to it?

I believe this may be a nickel, although I have no idea if this was done by a person and/or how they did it or if something happened during minting. My son (10yrs) and I love to look for error coins however, we are extreme novices and haven't obtained a high powered magnifying glass (only 10x's) nor do we have a scale yet. Thank you in advance for any information. Alicia

kaosleeroy108 my son and I will be spending our summer researching our current coins as well as continuing to collect and inspect! We're really excited to be here on Cointalk to ask questions, look at other's collections, show off some of ours and to be a part of the coin community!

Alicia, not too many people have a weighing scale, but you can take coins to jewelers to have them weighed or if there is a college or high school around there are balances in the chem labs that can weigh very accurately. Welcome to CT
