Hey there....I'm curious about a purchase I made from a guy standing out in front of the grocery store....
I paid $40 for all 8 coins....the 2 that stand our to me are the 1799 Bust Dollars....
I did a little online research on them and apparently there were a lot of counterfeits made of these coins...I cannot tell if they are real or fake....
Can anyone tell me their thoughts about those coins please....
If you can also give me any info on the other coins that will be helpful as well....did I get a good deal?
    Thanks in advance!

Well if you can't trust a guy selling rare coins in front of a grocery store, who can you trust?

Ellis Island dollar did not exist in 1906, the year should be 1986. Also it looks fake. All other coins are obvious fakes, they go for $1.5 in Chinese online shop, so I would say you overpaid.

All are fake but weigh them. If any are actually silver you may be ok with what you paid. Probably not but worth checking.

All are fakes and the last coin doesn't even have the right date. Sorry, man.

Yea, fakes all around. I understand the impulse to try to land an amazing deal on coins, but as you say, there are so many fakes, it's best to be thoroughly educated before letting go of your hard earned cash.

If I may ask, how did such a situation arise?

Sorry, it was a bad introduction to coins, but if this is the only one you have , you will have learned a lot and have better judgment. Also beware of fake gold coins, bars, jewelry, etc. It is a jungle out there. Maybe you will see the person again and ask why he is selling fakes in violation of federal laws ( coin not marked replica or Copy)and ask for your money back and keep the coins to destroy with a hammer, or give to the Feds.

That zero in 1906 has really been worked. It looks like it was originally an 8 that was poorly carved into a zero with an exacto knife.

You just took a $40 training class on how not to buy coins.

Might want to notify the local police, maybe they will see him trying to pedal coins at other stores in the area. Probably wont get your money back, but can at least shut him down if possible.

LOL -- the cheek makes the draped-bust Liberty on those first two "dollars" kinda looks like a NY cabbie in drag.

I was thinking maybe at least the Ellis Island dollar was a real silver one with a vandalized date, but no, it looks as fake as the rest.

at least he only spent $40, and that the lesson learned is more valuable than that.

There are some more of the "stink face" bust dollars.

This is akin to buying a Rolex out of a guys jacket.
