    Being a common date and badly damaged as long as it's real gold your fine is only worth melt anyway

    Not to threadjack, but how did you find a place with a composition scanner, and do they charge for using it? When I buy something questionable from eBay, I'd be happy to spend a few bucks to have someone zap it.

    I have developed a great relationship with my local coin shop. They always scan coins for me for free. I have bought and sold a lot with them over the years so we help each other out.

    I wouldn't buy it. When in doubt, do not buy.

    the shield on the eagle doesn't look right to me.

    Having never seen any damage like that before...when in doubt, it's fake.

    The rim damage I guess I can live with, but those cracks on the obverse are just so strange.
