    Found an 1897 Morgan Silver Dollar from my late father's estate . . it is not in very good condition, and due to the nature of the rubbing, I'm having difficulty establishing the mark on the back side, above and between, the D and O. Can anyone help? Is it worth anything?

    Edit to add: Probably worth 'melt value' in that condition (VG-8 F-12).

    Welcome to the forum.......:)

    thank you! Hope to find more coins as I rummage through the attic, and all the help I can get is truly appreciated, as I know nothing about old coins . . only wheat pennies and buffalo nickels!

    @tswalker, welcome aboard!
    One reason you can rule out a "D" mintmark is because the Denver Mint didn't open until 1906 and thus only struck Morgan Dollars for one year, 1921. Hope that info might help with future finds.
