A deli that was my best cent score has nickels and dimes also. Plus he says he has over $1000 in $1 coins. I've searched over $500 in nickels (about $200 left I will pick up tomorrow) and there hasn't been a big score with them so far. 2 war nickels, 3 - 2009, 40 - 1959 and older and a few nice clean older coins. Besides finding anything 1964 and older (which I doubt because I took a quick look) , is there anything else worth searching for? He has well over $1500 in dimes and I don't know if it would be worth it to search. Thx. Clutchy
If there are desirable variety coins to be found after 64, then I would be game. Only recently I started searching other coins besides cents, and I'm just wondering if dimes were worth it.
Occasionally with dimes I have found foreigns like British 5p coins, Canadian silver dimes from prior to 1968, a Philippines 10 centavos from 1944, Swiss 1/2 franc coins. I have found occasional proofs too, but not as many or as old as with nickels and cents.
Just tested the waters with $50 worth 1 - 2009 1 - 1974 Swiss 1/2 franc. This coin is in very nice shape. Best 1/2 or 1 Swiss franc I've found yet. I can't post pics from my phone so I''ll do it Monday.
Searched maybe $200 dollars in dimes and found about a half a tube of 2009, and have been putting aside the best coins that I find. Haven't found any foreign coins (other than Canada) at all. Usually if I find a foreign coin from any country I keep it. Just haven't found many in the dimes. Pennies are another thing for another thread.
If I find a 1996w in the wild I will have to purchase a lottery ticket. The lottery gods should be smiling down on me.
I did a little Google search and Wexlars has 2 doubled dies listed, in the 1940s. But when I went to NGC, they had 7 DDO/DDR listed from 1967 to 1970, plus a few RPMs. Doesn't NGC use Wexlars die numbers? I'm a bit confused.
I have found the mint tokens that they put in the older mint sets with the P and D mintmarks several times in cent box searches. I find proofs, a friend of mine found a silver 2006 proof quarter in change recently. As long as people like kids, thieves etc break up mint and proof sets you will find them in the wild.
