I posted some pics of this last Morgan in my other Morgan thread, but thought maybe it wasn't getting and views there since that thread had pretty much run its course. I hope I'm not out of line posting this by itself. I also posted my 1869 dime in its own thread...figured that way the Morgan folks could look here and the Dime folks could look there. I hope that comparing a condition consensus of these 3 vs. the stated condition when I bought them will move me along the path of judging grade by myself. 1887 Morgan, in cardboard coin holder so there may be some glare or distortion from the plastic. Thanks for you thoughts, folks. Back on the 1892-S Morgan thread, I would like to know how the "improperly cleaned" detail affects value. Rob
Your 1887 Morgan looks much better than the other coins you posted. I would grade it somewhere in the MS62-63 range. The other two coins are improperly cleaned and worth much less than book value, a common year like the 1891-S has scrap value only.
Although the eagle's breast seems unmarred, I see some flatness in the hair above the ear and also to the peak of the Phrygian cap, so I think this one qualifies as a "slider" and would grade out as AU58.
