Nice win, Steve. That was a pretty rough auction (for me at least). I did notice that a couple of other CTers scored some nice lots. Hope they get posted soon. No Faustina for me yet, but here's my Faustina Jr.
Here is a sestertius of Faustina I who died in 141. Struck 147 at Rome. AETER-NITAS, Aeternitas seated left holding phoenix on globe and long scepter. SC in exergue. 31 mm. 26.09 grams. Sear 2.4606. RIC (Antoninus Pius) 1103A.
As I see it, there are five Faustinas needed for a short set. Faustina I comes in lifetime and posthumous as does Faustina II but the younger has two major lifetime variations depending on whether she is shown as daughter of Pius or wife of Aurelius. In addition to the legend naming her as AVG PII F, daughter coins have reverses like modesty and joy While wife coins include sexier types like Fecunditas and Venus. ...or (later?) power (Great Mother) Hilaritas and the portrait on this lifetime denarius suggest someone had a sense of humor. I tend to believe Aurelius married II for something other than her looks.
I have a pile on my bookcase of domna and faustina jr, but no senior. I should start considering I see her go cheap constantly too. Great coins Doug, I have a Fecunditas & Great mother with black toning but havent decided on if I wanna keep them for my collectoon since I have other of her already being kept.
Nice => Doug, that's a mighty sweet set of Faustina coins ... Ummm, does my new Faustina Senior coin pass your scrutiny, or what? (no news is not always good news, my coin-friend)
I'm still only seeing about half the photos. For the rest I'm seeing an image. jpg thumbnail icon with no image. Anybody else having this problem? Software bug on CoinTalk?
yes Bannon => that is exactly what is happening to me (plus, it seems a bit random) ... not that I'm glad it's happening to you too, but misery does love company (you're not the only victim)
I think the mods are aware of the issue and are trying to fix it. I saw some test posts with photos from Desert Gem leading me to believe they are on it like white on rice!
