Hi guys, Picked this one up at the San Jose coin show on saturday. Had a really fun time. Ended up selling 2 colonials (Massachusetts and the "1783" Washington). That gave me enough cash to pick up this guy, a Kentucky colonial. I really like the reverse design on this one, how there are 15 stars with the initials of the "states" (or is it territories? Colonies? I think the coin was struck 1792-1794, maybe someone can refresh my memory). And just to clarify, the anomaly on the reverse from about 9 o'clock to 12 o'clock is a shadow from it being in the slab. I had originally gone to the show to pick up an AU coronet large cent but most of the stuff was out of my price range. I'll scour ebay for a cheaper one perhaps... So now that I have Kentucky crossed off my list, suggestions on which colonial I should possibly acquire next? I've already possessed the following in my collection: "1783" washington 1783 Nova Constellatio 1786 Nova Caesarea 1787 Nova Caesarea 1787 Massachusetts 1787 Fugio 1788 Connecticut Anyways, here is the coin...
The Kentucky's are very cool. Neat design, so much more sophisticated than most colonials and definitely on my want list. At the other end of the spectrum is a piece of 1652 MA silver for me - been wanting one a long time but have never quite found one that I'd accept for the money. There was a nice PCGS "Details" one a few months back, but I hesitated and missed it..
I've always been fond of the Rosa Americanas. A twopence with nice bath metal color and smooth surfaces is a joy to behold.
Nice token non_cents...I like it a lot. You might want to check out Vermont colonials. A lot of them show up on rough planchets but there are nice ones around too. I have a great reference on the series if you want me to check out any that might appeal to you. Good luck and have fun. Bruce
Neat Kentucky token non_cents! A silver Spanish 8 reale from the colonial period would be a nice addition to your collection.
Probably a very good estimate. After KY became the 15th state in 1792 and before TN became the 16th in 1796.
Pine tree and or oak tree both on my want list also like the Vermont coppers especially the vermontensium there's also the 1788 Massachusetts and the half cent. Of course if you really got big time there's the higley coppers the continental dollar and of course the brasher doubloon
I'd suggest a Fugio (maybe one with interesting die cracks or clashes) or a Nova Constellatio with a nice sharp "eye".
