The young dude on Art and Coin TV last night was again auctioning off toned Morgan dollars. He claimed he picked up a bunch from the Long Beach show last weekend and they were going for over $1000 each. I often watch the show for a bit before I go to sleep just to get a laugh sometimes at what they are charging for some of the coins. So my question is for those of you that attended the LB show. Were the toned Morgans really that high? I know some are depending on grade and year, etc, but he made it sound like they are starting to go through the roof and are going to keep going higher and higher. Yeah, I know that they try to make it sound like you better buy it before it becomes untouchable, but I am just curious if the prices are getting that bad for toned Morgans and other US coins. When I turned it on he was trying to sell a 1964 MS64 Kennedy with a toned reverse that he claimed was over $1k at the show for I think $799 and finally gave up because nobody wanted it.
some toned Morgan's go for $1,000-6,000 depending on if they are slabbed natural toning. some Kennedy's go for $200-400... all depends on how nice it looks and if it's natural toning. people can ask any price but figure out later it is way to high.
I doubt he paid over $1k for the Kennedy but he kept saying that is what the dealer was selling it for. He was implying that he paid that or more for it and he was selling it for less than what he paid for it. And the same with some other toned Morgans that were slabbed and that he was being robbed because the other Morgans went for so little when he auctioned them off. I never believe anything they say on there..I just enjoy watching it sometimes to see what they are up to.
One good rule of thumb to live by: DO NOT TRUST anything said by someone with the name of Shawn Lefler on TV. They're all full of it. I used to watch it and laugh, now I can't even stand to turn it on and listen to BS they spew.
I enjoy watching sometimes. I just don't like the long lead-ins to some of the silver they sell. I want to just get to the coins and see what they are selling. I do like to watch what these guys pay for a toned graded Morgan when he auctions them off. It's way more than I'd pay for most of them. Good late night entertainment but my wife can't stand the show!! lol.
Just because he's offering Toned "whatevers" does not mean that he purchased them at a coin show as he more than likely just "uses" the coin show (can't really prove he went) to sell artificially toned coins. Now, if they were graded, its a different story but no guarantees that something wasn;t slipped by the graders. Tell me this is natural:
