I'm working on a set of Braided Hair Large Cents as listed in the Red Book. I've got 4 more to go but am having a terrible time finding them. I know of 3 dealers that specialize in this area (EAC). -- Chris McCawley -- Tom Reynolds -- Butternut Are there any others that I should be keeping my eyes on?
Tom Deck has some, Shawn Yancey, and H. Craig Hamling. What 4 varieties are you looking for and about what grade?
I'm trying to stick in the VF/XF/AU range AND in PCGS/NGC slabs.. These are the ones I'm looking for. I think I have the Newcomb numbers correct (from Grellman's book): 1840 Small Date/Large 18 (N-2) 1842 Small Date (N-1 or N-2) 1843 Petite Head/Large Letters (N-4; also used to be N-13) 1843 Mature Head/Large Letters (N-5 or N-6 or N16 or N-17)
I am not sure that these are the grades you are looking for, but a member here has an online store, with nice photos, http://www.900fine.com/inventory/1 I once at a show enjoyed eavesdropping on Mr. Beale and a customer talking large cents
Yep the first 2 of them I have been looking for upgrades for my album. I will keep an eye out for them. Seems like I either find them in low grades or in grades way to high for me. The local shop had the 1840/18, but it was MS-64. Little to pricey for me.
