Please read if you purchased Silver today.

I was headed out to mail about 10 or 12 packages and stopped to grab more bubble mailers. I left my window down about 3 inches and in the 15 min I was in the store someone broke into my car, stole my phone and all the coins I had to mail. I have filed a police report and hope they can track my phone. I am going to refund all the purchases and if I get the 30 some odd dollars in silver that was stolen I will offer it for sale again. What a crappy day.. I know it is my own fault for leaving the window down but I hope the local PD can come through. I apolagize to all that purchased coins. I will be sending the refunds in the next few minutes.

I hope you recover the coins!
I remember the first night I stayed in Indianapolis I had my truck broken into. The next morning I called the police, and all they did was take the report over the phone. They didn't even bother to send an officer to investigate. Needless to say, I hope your police are better than ours!!!

While I sympathize with you and your loss and am sorry to hear that it happened, and I hope you can get the coins back, there is a lesson to be learned here.....and that is, NEVER leave mail or cell phones, especially mailers that can hold small valuable items, sitting in an automobile where they can be seen and then stolen. Even if the windows are up and the doors locked, it only takes a second to bust out a window and grab the stuff. When I leave the car or truck my cell phone goes in the console in the middle if I don't want to take it in with me. If I have coins or other valuable things to mail in bubble mailers, I use a canvas type bag to carry them in to the PO so you can't really see what is in there.

It really sucks that this happened to you. From almost 40 years of working in two state court systems, the chances of them finding who did it is pretty small unless they were able to get fingerprints off your vehicle or someone saw them or....and you might check on this....there were some video cameras that the store might have had on the parking area or the mall or whatever where you stopped. It would be worth doing a little research to see if some camera could have recorded what happened. So if you have the time, check into that.

 

I was surprised you sold all those coins. A cointalk member of 15 days selling silver under spot only accepting money orders or paypal gift were to many red flags for me. I hope everyone gets their money back.

 

Let me get this right, and now said coins, bought and paid for by CoinTalk members are stolen. I hope I'm missing something.

Money was refunded promptly! It did not take him to refund the Paypal account.

Is there a national Hotline (perhaps run by ANA) where you can report stolen coins? And in your State, find out how long pawn shops are required to HOLD purchases before selling them, then call some of them. The average pawn shop is LOADED with surveillance cameras. And watch your local CraigsList. There's plenty you can do to help yourself.

That really sucks. Sorry to hear about that - as others have said, ask all the businesses in the area (especially if there is a bank/ATM) if they have surveillance footage. Dont rely on the police to ask for you (unfortunately). Hope you recover the coins - maybe post a wanted ad on craigs list or in the local paper saying you pay big money for certain types of coins. Thieves may just be dumb enough to try to sell you your own coins back....

 

man that sucks. lesson learned is not to leave any coins/silver in your car period.
