"Silver" 1994-D penny

I got this one at work. It appears to either be plated or zinc/sodium hydroxideed but my local coin dealer thinks it's an error. What do you think?

It looks normal to me. Did your dealer make an offer?

 

What does it weigh?

 

If the color actually is not copper there is a possibility it could be an unplated planchet. I do not know how much the plating weighs but, if it is relatively close but under 2.5 grams then it could be worth sending to a grading service for authentication. I've weighed countless post 1982 cents and they were mostly 2.56 - 2.57 grams with some that were .01 or .02 less than that.

 

2.62 grams, which indicates (to me) that it has been coated.

 

The copper plating on a cent weighs about .06 grams.
