I'm just curious what coins all you ancient coin collectors still have on your wish lists that you have yet to acquire. I have quite an enormous list since I am still new to ancient collecting and my portfolio is still in the single digits, so I will get around to my list later.

My wish list has a few fewer items on it now after the last couple weeks :) I won't spoil the surprise, but the Port of Ostia was just the first of several new purchases.

Let me see. My wish list includes most Greek and all Roman bronze, silver and gold coins. :blackalien:

yeah, got a huge want list XD

Wouldnt mind a tetradrachm from Athens, or one of Alexander III from Lysimachos , maybe a nice stater from Corinth, and a drachm from Rhodes.

#1 is a coin of Septimius Severus clearly overstruck on a Pescennius Niger with legible undertype as good as the one above which belonged to Roger Bickford Smith but is now in the British Museum. In a pinch, I would accept a Julia Domna on Pescennius just as well.

#2 is a coin with Septimius Severus obverse and VICTOR IVST AVG reverse showing Victory seated. I have the Julia Domna version but have not seen the reverse used with Septimius. Maybe it never was.

Most of my wants are coins I do not know exist. Most collectors could fill their wants by sending a million or ten to a dealer and watching for the postman to arrive. Mine could be found tomorrow on eBay for $10 (with my luck it would belong to a dealer I hate) or could never be seen no matter how much money you have to back the project. I have limited time and limited funds so wish me the kind of luck that some people waste on the lottery.

I just realized that both of my listed wants are quite possible on the same coin so I'll change my want to a #2 struck on a Pescennius Niger.

I came up with a list at the beginning of this year, hoping to pick some of them up during the course of the year. Most of these are common enough as types, but I've not managed to find the right ones for me.

    - Denarius of Julius Caesar, Augustus, Otho
    - More coins from Hadrian's 'Travel Series'
    - Antoninus Pius Alexandrian drachm
    - First Meris tetradrachm of Amphipolis
    - Aegina stater
    - Thebes stater

The great (and to some extent dangerous) thing about collecting ancients is that even if you don't come across the coin on your want list that's the right combination of price and condition, at that moment there's a good chance you'll see some other coin that's not on the want list but is the right combination. And an equally good chance that you'll buy it :D

Ok so here's my abbreviated want list:
    1) Calabria, Tarentum nomos (Taras on dolphin)
    2) Aegina stater (sea turtle or tortoise)
    3) Ephesus, Ionia (bee/stag)
    4) Kyrene didrachm (silphium plant)
    5) Macedon, Eion (goose with lizard)
    6) Sicily, Syracuse onkia (octopus)
    7) Sikyon hemidrachm (chimera/dove)
    8) Corinth drachm (Aphrodite or Peirene with hair tied up--not the one with her wearing the helmet or hair up in sakkos)
    9) surprise...I might acquire this coin shortly depending on the outcome of an auction.

My wishlist is fairly modest at this point.

    1) Germanicus AE As
    2) Agrippa AE As
    3) Nero AE
    4) Augustus DIVVS IVLIVS Comet denarius
    5) Corinth Stater.

I always look for other cool coins but these are the ones I would really like to have.

Since its a list and not links to our VC wish list, lol:

    Otho Denarius < $400
    Athens Owl Tet
    Domna Emesa & Alexandria Mint
    1 Byzantine gold

There are many coins on my hit list... more every week and always changing.

One higher-end type is an AV stater of Alexander III with Athena/Nike. They are plentiful so I don't feel pressured to grab just any old example. The trick will be finding one I really like at a price I'm willing to pay.

I agree with Mat though-- I hesitate to advertise my hit list for fear of generating competition.

I am not too worried about competition just because all of my coins are fairly common minus the denarius.

I hate having a list though because the coins on the list I am that much more picky about and I notice so many more minor flaws that I wouldn't care about in any other coins I buy.
